This medication is used to treat a certain sleep problem (Insomnia). It may help you fall asleep faster, stay asleep longer, and lessen how often you wake up during the night, so you can get a better night’s rest. Estazolam belongs to a class of drugs called benzodiazepines. It acts on your brain to produce a calming effect. Estazolam is a benzodiazepine.

The dosage is based on your medical condition, age, and response to treatment. Although unlikely, this drug can rarely cause temporary short-term memory loss. To lessen the chance of this, do not take a dose of this drug unless you have time for a full night’s sleep of at least 7 to 8 hours.
If you suddenly stop using this medication, you may have withdrawal symptoms (such as nausea, vomiting, flushing, stomach cramps, nervousness, shakiness). To help prevent withdrawal, your doctor may lower your dose slowly. Withdrawal is more likely if you have used estazolam for a long time or in high doses.
Estazolam’s more common and less side effects include: drowsiness, ejaculatory disorder, nausea, insomnia, and diaphoresis. Other side effects include: suicidal tendencies, agitation, diarrhea, impotence, sinusitis, anxiety, confusion, exacerbation of depression, lack of concentration, tremor, vomiting, anorexia, and xerostomia. Refer to your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects, including: shaking (tremor), decreased interest in sex, changes in sexual ability, easy bruising/bleeding. Get medical help right away if you have any very serious side effects, including: fainting, fast/irregular heartbeat, black stools, vomit that looks like coffee grounds, seizures, eye pain/swelling/redness, widened pupils, vision changes (such as seeing rainbows around lights at night).
Estazolam overdose and a serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing, give or take naloxone if available, then dial police or emmergencies’ number. If the person is awake and has no symptoms, call a poison control center right away. If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose.
