What is Morphine Sulfate ER?

The main alkaloid of opium is Morphine. Morphine Sulfate ER is a pain medication of the opiate family. And it is naturally in a number of plants and animals. You can take Morphine both for acute pain and chronic pain; and it is frequently for pain from myocardial infarction and during labor. Morphine is a potent opiate analgesic drug.

The morphine is usually taking by mouth, by injection into a muscle, by injection under the skin, intravenously, injection into the space around the spinal cord, or rectally. Sedative (Opioids) are the strongest form of medication  to treat pain.

Kindly notice that, an opioid attaches to the receptor, which reduces the transmission of pain messages to the brain, reducing pain. Opioids are used to treat moderate to severe pain that is not well managed with other pain medications. They do not treat the underlying cause of the pain. If a cancer is causing the pain, the cancer treatment is aimed at reducing the pain.

Medical uses of Morphine Sulfate ER

Morphine Sulfate ER  (Tablets, Injections, Solutions, Powder…) is used to help relieve moderate to severe pain. It is used for pain due to myocardial infarction and for labor pains. Morphine belongs to a class of drugs known as opioid (narcotic) analgesics. However, concerns exist that morphine may increase mortality in the event of non ST elevation myocardial infarction.

It works in the brain to change how your body feels and responds to pain. Morphine is used primarily to treat both acute and chronic severe pain. Its duration of analgesia is about three to seven hours. Side-effects of nausea and constipation are rarely severe enough to warrant stopping treatment. Morphine is also traditionally  using in the treatment of acute pulmonary edema.

Shortness of breath

It is beneficial in cutting down the symptom of shortness of breath due to both cancer and noncancer causes.

Side Effects of Morphine Sulfate ER

The Morphine Sulfate ER Capsules like others opioids acts on the myenteric plexus in the intestinal tract, cutting gut motility, causing constipation. By inhibiting gastric emptying and reducing propulsive peristalsis of the intestine, morphine decreases the rate of intestinal transit.

Reduction in gut secretion and increased intestinal fluid absorption also contribute to the constipating effect. Like adverse effects we have: nausea, vomiting, constipation, lightheadedness, dizziness, drowsiness, or sweating may occur. And some of these side effects may decrease after you have been using this medication for a while.

If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly. In fact to prevent constipation, eat dietary fiber, drink enough water, and exercise. You may also need to take a laxative. You must ask your pharmacist or doctor which type of laxative is right for you.

This is very important please, before taking Morphine Sulfate ER, you must tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to other opioid pain medications (such as codeine); or if you have any other allergies. Morphine Sulfate may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. You must talk to your pharmacist for more details.

You have to notice that drug interactions can change how your medications work or increase your risk for serious side effects. You must keep a list of all the products you use (including prescription/nonprescription drugs and herbal products) and share it with your doctor and pharmacist. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicines without your doctor’s approval.

Do not forget to inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking other products such as other opioid pain or cough relievers (such as codeine, hydrocodone), alcohol, marijuana (cannabis), drugs for sleep or anxiety (such as alprazolam, lorazepam, zolpidem), muscle relaxants (such as carisoprodol, cyclobenzaprine), or antihistamines (such as cetirizine, diphenhydramine).

Immediatly if someone has overdosed and has serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing, give them naloxone if available, then call dial police’s number or emmergencies.

MISUSE OF MORPHINE SULFATE ER CAN CAUSE ADDICTION, OVERDMORPHINEOSE, OR DEATH. Keep the medication in a place where others cannot get to it.
